WORST OF TIMES BRINGS OUT BEST IN COMMUNITY
The Salisbury Corps of The Salvation Army has announced the results of the 2008 Red Kettle Campaign – Kettles for Kids and Community. A total of $162,813 was donated to kettles in Wicomico, Worcester and Somerset counties. This represents a 62% year-over-year increase. In addition, kettles were 100% manned by volunteers unlike previous years where a significant number of bell-ringers were paid. Campaign co-chairmen Jim Perdue and Sheriff Mike Lewis called The Lower Shore community to action and it certainly responded by volunteering and donating in record numbers. Officials at The Salvation Army report that 442 individuals and 255 organizations volunteered their time to cover 4,753 hours of bell-ringing.
Captain Cameron Henderson, Corps Officer, stated that the local Army had braced for a difficult fundraising season due to the poor economy and how that would impact consumers and potential donors. With requests for Christmas help and other services at an all time high and with the prospect of great continued need as winter heating bills arrive and seasonal employment ends, The Salvation Army desperately needed a strong Campaign year to be able to continue to provide help to those who need it most.
In addition to the successful Kettle Campaign, donors sent in checks and cash to help with the effort bringing the total Christmas drive to $321,108 to date with funds still being received. “This is the best Christmas season the Salisbury Salvation Army has ever had in its 94 year history,” said Henderson. “We started the season with a blessing of the Lord Jesus, since it is His season, and we asked Him to bless us. It is His work that we do, and He knows what we need. He has been faithful to help us!”
Officials at The Salvation Army pointed to key volunteer leadership and media support in the Campaign’s success. In addition to Perdue and Lewis, Steve Hammond, Anchor/Managing Editor of WBOC/FOX21 and past Kettle Campaign Chairman, served as a media partner along with both stations. Delmarva Broadcasting (WICO, Cat Country) served as radio media sponsor. Both media partners produced and aired public service announcements, aired news stories and provided other program opportunities to support the Kettle drive and to encourage volunteer participation. Perdue and Captain Henderson were also guests on Phil Tilghman’s “One-on-One” program on PAC 14.
The Salvation Army received unprecedented support from the blog site Salisbury News and its editor Joe Albero. Through his blog, Albero provided commentary, news stories and continuous updates of the bell-ringing schedule at three prime locations. He was able to post unexpected openings in real time and get them filled immediately by his readers – a powerful and unique benefit to the Kettle Campaign.
“We cannot thank enough the hundreds of volunteers across the Lower Shore who so willingly gave of their time and/or donated to the Kettles – we wish we could name each and everyone”, said Henderson. “Your work has been remarkable and it has and will continue to make a difference in the lives of those suffering in our community”.
One name that was mentioned, however, was Danny Foxwell, a volunteer who coordinated so much the kettles, working tirelessly day and night throughout the campaign. Foxwell donated over eighty hours of his time per week to make the campaign a success.

We just received word from a local Appraisal Company, according to their reports, Wicomico County Property Values decreased 5% in the month of December.
The supply and demand has a lot to do with this but these numbers do not reflect foreclosure properties. Houses are sitting month after month and nothing is moving. Remember Folks, this is ONE MONTH. Put your seat belts on, it's about to get really rough around here.

Media Monday 090105 - Inaccuracy and a Strong Move Left
Case in point - Sunday's Daily Time's piece about Del. Page Elmore showing "support of state workers" by taking part in the O'Malley administration's furlough of non-essential state employees. Reporter Liz Holland makes it sound as if Elmore is a leader in the movement of legislators taking part in the furlough. He's not. I've got nothing against Elmore. I'm not accusing him of anything. It's just a plain, easily verifiable fact that members of the legislature have been announcing that they will take part in the furlough for almost a month.
The first I remember reading about it was a piece by the Baltimore Sun's Andy Green on December 8, 2008. Green let us know that Del. Nic Kipke (R-31) had announced he was taking part AND that he was preceded by fellow Anne Arundel Del. Steve Schuh (R-31). Since then, there has been a steady trickle of legislators announcing that they wouldn't take their salary for five days as other state employees are having to do.

TYPE OF INCIDENT: Attempted Fraud
CASE NO.: 09-1211
Details: On January 5, 2009 at approximately 9:20 am, a complainant called the Fruitland Police Department to report that a “collection agency” was calling her house attempting to collect payment for a loan that she never received. The caller told the complainant that if she did not make a payment within 48 hours, she would be arrested. Investigation into the company revealed that they are a fraudulent agency that attempts to intimidate victims in to sending them money. The “company” goes by the names “United Legal Headquarters”, “United Legal Corp.”, and “United Legal Services”. The phone numbers that these fraudulent agencies are calling from start with 410-690. It is believed that the bogus agency got the complainant’s information from an online loan company. There is a legitimate collection agency by the name of United Legal Recovery Services that is based in Anaheim, CA that uses 1-877 phone numbers, and it is believed that the fraudulent agency is playing off of their name. If you receive phone calls similar to this one, do not send them money until the company’s legitimacy can be verified.

Location: East Lincoln Avenue at Hemlock Street, Salisbury, MD
Suspects: Leondrus Devon Higgins, 21, Salisbury, MD
Narrative: On 5 January 2009 at 12:59AM, a deputy from the WCSO stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation on East Lincoln Avenue. Upon making contact with the occupants of the vehicle, the deputy had them exit the vehicle. When one of the occupants, Leondrus Higgins exited, the deputy observed Higgins to place his hand into his coat pocket. The deputy had Higgins remove his hand and immediately patted down the area where Higgins had reached. Upon doing this, the deputy felt a small handgun in the pocket. The deputy placed Higgins in handcuffs, removed the handgun and then recovered an additional handgun from Higgins’ pants pocket. During the ensuing investigation, the deputy discovered that the serial number on one of the handguns had been altered in an attempt to make it unreadable. The deputy also discovered that due to past criminal convictions, Higgins was prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Higgins was placed under arrest and transported to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, Higgins was detained in the Detention Center by the Commissioner in lieu of $100,000.00 bond.

Narrative: On 2 January 2009 at 5:30 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle operated by Gurpreet Parmar on Naylor Mill Road for displaying an expired registration plate. Upon contacting the occupants, the deputy smelled the odor of marijuana emanating from inside Parmar’s vehicle. A WCSO drug K9 also scanned the vehicle and alerted positively to the odor of illegal drugs in the vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle, the deputy located marijuana in the center console and along with a brown bag in the back seat that contained six individually wrapped bags of marijuana.
Based on the findings, Parmar and his two passengers, Tyler Easley and Marcus Smiley were placed under arrest for Possession with the Intent to Distribute. All three were transported to the Central Booking Unit where they were processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. Suspects: 15 YOA Male Juvenile, Salisbury, MD
Narrative: On 2 January 2009 at 8:42 PM, a deputy from the WCSO met with two victims in the 400 block of Dorsey Lane who both advised they saw a male juvenile with a flashlight inside their vehicles. The victims provided a description of the suspect to the deputy who then began checking the area. While on an adjacent street, the deputy located a juvenile matching the provided description who also happened to possess a flashlight. The victims arrived and positively identified the suspect as the one they saw inside their vehicles.
The deputy arrested the juvenile and transported him to the WCSO. Upon contacting the Department of Juvenile Services, the Sheriff’s Office was instructed to release the juvenile to a parent.

Narrative: On 3 January 2009 at 1:49 AM, a deputy from the WCSO stopped a vehicle operated by Eric Jones for an equipment violation. Upon contacting Jones, the deputy subsequently discovered that his Maryland Driver’s license was suspended. Based on Jones’ driving status, he was placed under arrest by the deputy. Post arrest, the deputy located several individually wrapped baggies of marijuana on Jones.
Jones was transported to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, the Commissioner held Jones in the Detention Center in lieu of $5,000.00

Narrative: On 3 January 2009 at 2:22 PM, deputies from the WCSO responded to PRMC to meet with the victim of an assault that occurred in the 1500 block of Esquire Drive in Salisbury. The victim advised that she was involved in an altercation with David Miller that turned physical. During the assault, the victim informed the deputy that Miller inflicted injury on her. The deputy managed to locate Miller in the area of PRMC and he was subsequently placed under arrest.
Miller was transported to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, Miller was held by the Commissioner in the Detention Center in lieu of $15,000.00 bond.

Jon P Satterfield, 25yoa, of Horntown, VA was arrested for 2 counts of Prescription Forgery, 2 counts of False Prescription, Possession of Fraudulent Prescription,2 counts of Counterfeit Prescription, 2 counts of Unlawful Obtaining of Adderall, and Theft less than $100. On Dcember 30, 2008, an officer responded to Apple Discount Drugs on Pemberton Drive for a possible forged/counterfeit prescription. It was learned through investigation that Satterfield had obtained the prescription by fraudulent means and attempted to pass the prescription at Apple Drug. Satterfield was transported and released to the custody of Central Booking.

Juvenile, 16yoa, of Salisbury, MD and Juvenile, 16yoa, of Parsonsburg, MD were arrested for 2nd degree Burglary, Theft under $500, Malicious Destruction of Property under $500, Possession of Marihuana Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Concealed Weapon. On December 31, 2008 at approximately 3:51am, officers responded to an alarm at the Country Food Store located on Priscilla St. On arrival officers found the front door to the business to be shattered. Investigation determined that several cartons of cigarettes, smoking pipes and currency had been stolen. Additional officers located the two juveniles in the area of Hammond St and Middleneck Dr. After a brief foot chase, the juveniles were detained and property from the store was located on their persons. In addition, search incident to the arrest found that one juvenile was in possession of suspected marihuana and the other juvenile was in possession of “brass” knuckles. The Department of Juvenile Services was contacted in an attempt to detain the two juveniles. Juvenile Services elected to release the juveniles to their parent(s) or guardian(s).

Antonio Kevin Davis, 28yoa, of Salisbury was arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant charging him with Attempted 1st degree Murder, Use of Handgun during Commission of a Felony, 1st degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment, Attempted 2nd degree Murder, Handgun on Person, and Assault 2nd degree, on January 1, 2009. The charges stem from an investigation into a shooting that occurred at the Center City Exxon on December 26, 2008. Davis and the victim had an on-going disagreement over an incident that had occurred approximately two weeks prior. Davis and the victim encountered each other at the Exxon and Davis shot the victim twice. Davis was transported and released to the custody of Central Booking.

Ursula Rose Holbrook, 29yoa, of Salisbury, MD was arrested for 1st & 2nd degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment, and Use of Weapon with intent to Injure. On December 31, 2008 at approximately 11:59pm, officers responded to the Thrift Travel Inn for the report of a stabbing. During the investigation it was learned that Holbrook had become involved in an argument with her boyfriend (victim). During this argument the victim physically assaulted Holbrook. Holbrook found an open knife and stabbed the victim in the chest one time, puncturing his lung. Holbrook and the victim were both transported to PRMCER for treatment. Holbrook was released and the victim held for observation. Holbrook was then transported and released to the custody of Central Booking. Investigation continuing and charges pending against victim.

Timothy Michael Velasco, 30yoa, of Salisbury, MD was arrested for 2nd degree Assault. On January 1, 2009 at approximately 1:45am, officers responded to Brew River Restaurant for a large fight. On arrival, the officers found that the fight was occurring in the parking lot. Once order was restored it was learned that Velasco had assaulted the victim inside the bar area by punching the victim in the face. Velasco was transported and released to the custody of Central Booking.

Joe Albero Offers Some FREE Advice
OK, while I know this Post will be risky in the sense that many of the nay sayers out there will want to rag on me for giving advice, hopefully they read the entire article before they come back attacking me.
I will say this however. Just like this Blog, it's free. It's not gospel or the word of God. It's advice and it's tough, straight to the point reality in which most of you will not be able to be strong enough to take. That should get you reading further.
Let's talk about the Real Estate Market. We put up a Post Saturday that I thought was pretty stupid. For many of you, you may have thought it was interesting but quite frankly, most young Americans have no clue about the reality of finances.
I'm speaking about Suzie Orman and her STAGED interview with a "Professional" Real Estate Agent of 10 years. IF you happened to view the video, great. If you didn't I'll share with you what happened. You see, some IDIOT Real Estate Agent purchased a home as a single Mother. She had a rental but lost it to foreclosure. There's a lot of that going on these days. However, on her own personal home she has, GET THIS, three mortgages on the home. How could that be, I thought to myself, she's a Professional Real Estate Agent of 10 years!
These are the same IDIOTS that you go to and throw out every single personal piece of information about yourself throughout your entire life and trust that they come back and tell you what you can and can't afford. These are the same IDIOTS that bait you and show you homes that are supposed to comfortably fit into your price range, then they tease you with a few that are out of your range, much cleaner, much nicer, you know the drill. Oh, let's not forget their favorite homes to show you. Not the one you want, not the one in your price range, the one they're the listing AND selling Agent on! Double commission, that's the home run they love so much.
Anyhow, let me part from going any further at this time as I'd like to tell you a personal story from experience to show why the information I'll be advising is worthy.
I have shared with many in the past that I owned a home in Captain's Hill in West Ocean City. I paid $300,000.00 for the home. With my income, I could have purchased a $2,000,000.00 home without any problem. NO, I'm NOT bragging. I'm simply starting off showing you the first lesson, you do NOT have to spend a ton of money on a home to be happy and comfortable.
After purchasing this home I hired some people to come in and renovate it to make it comfortable to me. My neighbor Mr. Bruce Moore, (Moore, Warfield & Glick) got back into the Real Estate business after he had sold his interests in his other company by purchasing the Remax Franchise. A few years after I purchased this property I called Bruce and invited him over as I wanted to see what he thought this home was worth. He came over and said it was wroth $600,000.00. Most would be very pleased with that number, right? I looked at Bruce and said, are you nuts? He said, let me get an appraiser in here Joe and take a look at it. The appraiser came by and ultimately came back to me with a value of $450,000.00! VERY INTERESTING!
Bruce called me a day later and asked, "how did the appraisal come out?" I said, you know this person well? Yes. I said, she's a nut job Bruce. I gave him the value and he said, I told you it wasn't worth more than $600,000.00. Do you want to list it? I told him they were crazy with their figures and of course I was already thinking, WHAT A TEAM they've got going here. Bruce argued and finally said, I'll list it for $700,000.00 Joe but if you want any more than that, you need to find someone else to list it because I want nothing to do with it then.
Let me make a very long story short. I listed my home for $1,600,000.00, yes, one million, six hundred thousand dollars. The home SOLD for $1.6 Mil in 5 hours, CASH! Now, the Real Estate Professional I was relying on had 40 years Professional experience under his belt and OOPS, I made a mistake, didn't I! Yeah, a ONE MILLION DOLLAR MISTAKE, that is! Even worse, how about that Real Estate Appraiser coming in at $450,000.00!
OK, so it's an interesting story and it got your attention. Again, if you're thinking I'm posting this to brag, you're wrong. The point of the matter is, even the best of the best have no clue what they're doing, or do they? How quickly could YOU sell a $1.6 Mil Home for at $600,000.00? A PROFESSIONAL would have come to me and said, let's put it on the market at $2,400,000.00 and see what we can get from there! If a car manufacturer puts a price tag on a car of $20,000.00, a Professional will sell that car for $20,000.00. Why, because it's worth that much. Other alleged professionals have made sure this is what the market value is, so that's what you should pay. Now, if it were YOUR car and it was worth $20,000.00 and a Salesman sold it for $18,000.00, would you be happy? Don't forget, you haven't paid him the commission yet! Yet in the Real Estate business, an alleged Professional places a value on your most prize possession and you trust them? I can tell you now, Hal Glick and Bob Warfield aren't in a very good position after foreclosing on a massive development on the Virginia Eastern Shore. The name of it slips me at the moment. Captain's Cove, or something like that. Bruce Moore still has a piece of Remax but from what I understand the Agents are walking out the door so fast right now, (seriously) they have no clue what they're going to do. Remember, these are professionals that know the market better than anyone else out there, right?
So a professional told you what you can or can't afford and considering many of you trusted these people, you fell for their game and you purchased homes in that range. If it were me, I would have purchased a home 1/2 of what they told you was affordable and if I couldn't I'd continue renting until I could. Nope, not young Americans. They need to have that perfect palace and when one of the two income providers loses their job, it's back to the Parents for help because they can't afford the payments any more. Bad enough the Parents loaned/gave them the $20,000.00 down payment clearly showing they weren't ready to buy a home to start with. But the Real Estate Agent doesn't care about seeing the very first sign of problems because they want that commission.
Back to the Idiot Professional Real Estate Agent from our Post yesterday. She bought a home, got a 2nd mortgage on the home and then added a 3rd mortgage because she wanted a pool. Oh, what I wouldn't do to know just how many IDIOTS out there reading Salisbury News did this same thing? My guess, NONE OF YOU were that stupid! I could be wrong but that's like buying that $20,000.00 car and financing it for 10 years, STUPID! Oh, but wait a minute, this was a 10 year Professional Real Estate Agent advising you on what you should buy or shouldn't buy. NOW, let me say this to all of you. This is NOT a one in a million case here. MANY Realatards have done this. I know some of them personally and believe me, they're some of the dumbest Idiots I have ever seen! Interest only loans, you name it, these Idiots moved their families into these mansions and are losing everything simply because they just had to have it their way. They had to prove to all of you they were successful and you can trust their advice. Like gamblers, these people think that ONE DAY they're going to sell that one major deal and pay off that interest only loan and own the home free and clear. How's it working for you now?
Here's where I really hit you hard. I started buying real estate back in 1985. Yeah, I'm starting to show my age. My first home was a $300,000.00 home in North Caldwell New Jersey. Real estate taxes on that little 1/8 of an acre property back then was around $2,800.00 a year. Can you believe that! I believe the interest rate was a steal at 9.5%. Now I've made a LOT of money between 1985 and 2009 but let me say this. I made more in one year than the entire price of my first home. North Caldwell, (so you know) is where they shot the home of the Sopranos.
My point to you and my advice to you is this. Stop trusting these people to tell you what you can and can't afford. YOU, of all people, know what you can and can't afford. I'm NOT suggesting you only buy a home valued at one years income. I'd say three years income, MAX! If you can't afford that, don't buy it. Continue to save until you get to that point. Quit depending on your parents and grandparents to front you the money to get into something you can't afford.
You should be able to pay your 30 year mortgage off in 10 years and I'm serious. When you're done with the payments in 10 years by sending in additional monthly payments, look at your position then and decide, why do you need a bigger and better home? If you have good solid reason, sell your home and take all the equity and steal a home somewhere, like I did in Ocean City. Granted, stories like mine are rare but I have been at this a lot of years and I have always bought smart. Today, here's my position. I own millions of dollars in real estate. It's a matter of public record, I paid $50,000.00 for the old Station 7 in Pittsville. I sold it for more than $400,000.00. Buy right and buy smart. Everyone said, what are you doing buying that old hunk of crap? No one says anything to me now about it. The key to this entire story is, while I do own millions of dollars in real estate, I OWE NO ONE! No mortgages, nothing! Just the taxes and insurance.
Some have said elsewhere that I got my money from my Parents/Family. That's just complete crap. My Parents and Family never gave me a penny. I did this on my own and I lived well below my means. Even when I had my big home in the Annapolis area I paid $300,000.00 for it after I sold my tiny home in New Jersey. The move to Maryland was a very smart move as I saved tons of money verses staying in Jersey. I ultimately bought a home in Delmar, De. My real estate taxes are $1,200.00 a year and as many of you know, it's a beautiful custom built home on 7.5 acres. Does anyone need more than that? I can afford the nicest home known here on the Eastern Shore but for what? To impress others? You see how I dress. I'm not out to impress anyone. This Post is done because Americans need to learn. The big question is, are you pissed because I've been successful? If you are, man, there's something seriously wrong with you. I'd be happy to know someone who beat the system and is willing to share some good FREE advice.
Now, the next time you go to the Grocery Store or shopping in general, before you get to the register look into that cart and decide which items are what you NEED and which wants are just things you WANT. Take the wants and put them back and you'll be amazed at how much money you'll save in a year. Could I be walking around in designer clothes impressing the rest of the wealthy people in our communities, absolutely. However, they don't impress me one bit. You know why? Because many of them are in debt up to their eyeballs and are probably some of the same people advising you on what YOU can or can't afford. Look where that got you today! Are you on a second mortgage? Is your home paid off? How long have you been at paying off your home? Are you afraid that you'll never live to see the day you have paid off your mortgages?
Let me say this as well. I happen to have one of the greatest Accountants probably in the United States. He's based out of Rockville and we have been friends for a million years. He advises many of the Fortune 500 Companies in America and does a lot of auditing for them. We sat down many years ago and I said, Harold, what's the best way for me to secure my future? He said, PAY OFF YOUR MORTGAGE! I replied, I thought that was a big write off for me? He replied. Joe, you paid $300,000.00 for your home, right? Yes. Do you realize that if you make those payments for 30 years you'll have paid about $1,200,000.00 for that home? (Remember, interest rates were quite different back then) I hadn't a clue. You see, like many others, all I thought about was, I can easily make this payment. Anyhow, Harold went on to say. Let's say you sold this home in 25 years. You've probably paid close to a million for it. Do YOU think you're going to sell it for a million dollars? NOPE! He said, let's be conservative and say you sold it for $500,000.00. Many think they just made $200,000.00 in profit when in reality they just lost $500,000.00!!!!! THAT'S when it clicked in for me. Getting a write off on a mortgage is a JOKE! You know how little you get in return for our Government encouraging YOU to mortgage a property. It's a complete scam! Our Government wants you to be in a home you can barely afford. We're the Idiots falling for it and when I realized how bad it was, I started sending in an extra thousand dollars a month and started buying my debt down and within no time I was in the drivers seat.
Now look, I'm not stupid. These are my examples and I'm in a unique position. However, you can achieve the same thing if you set your priorities straight. My goal was to financially secure my Family in case anything ever happened to me. Yeah, you can buy a life insurance policy that can leave some security but what happens if you don't die? You fell for the oldest Government trick going. You bought a home you could barely afford, (in many cases) and you also paid for life insurance to boot. The odds of you dying are very slim, like it or not. I'm not at all suggesting that life insurance isn't a good thing, because it is. Especially at today's rates and especially when you're young. Back when I had serious life insurance it wasn't cheap. Today it is because the stats changes as people are living much longer.
So my advice is, start being more responsible with your money. Buy down your mortgage as fast as humanly possible, it's better than life insurance. (Again, I'm not suggesting you not have life insurance) Buy a car that is one year old, not brand new. The Banks will treat it like it's a brand new car, interest rates and all and let someone else take all the depreciation from it the first year. Talk to your Banker and ask them what it would take each month in extra money to pay off your mortgage in 20 years rather than 30, you'll be amazed at how little it would take. If you can afford it, ask what it would take each month to drop it to ten years. Again, you probably can afford it but you'd have to give up some luxuries throughout that time but it will be the best money you ever spent.
Become debt free. It's not as difficult as you would think. Once you become debt free, think about how great your retirement will be! Think of all those trips you'll be able to make once the kids are gone! Americans are so trained that they just keep refinancing because they can afford the payments. Hopefully now you'll see things a little differently. This advice comes from someone who's been there and successfully beat the system. I'm not just some guy, (like those Doctors, Lawyers and Real Estate people) who just throws out advice and doesn't have anything to back it up. You'd be truly amazed at the position you'll be in when the Banks keep coming to you wanting to loan you money. Take back America from these corporate giants who are getting fed your cash to bail them out because they suckered the majority of Americans into mortgages they couldn't afford to start with. Remember, these are the Professionals people like Shanie Shields, Gary Comegys and Chief David See trusted, remember? These are also some of the people who filed Bankruptcy, yet they want to tell all of YOU how to do things. Now can you see why I get so ticked off when I hear these people speak?
Good Luck to each and every one of you. It's never too late to start taking this advice and guess what, it can't hurt you. Take it or leave it, that's up to you but you're not going to be given such said advice very often in your lifetime because our Government is making billions upon billions of dollars off of those people who trust these alleged Professionals, interest rates and mortgages. In 10 years you could be debt free. Is it worth buying those $100.00 pair of jeans or $100.00 pair of tennis shoes because one of your kids WANTS them? My Mom always made sure that if we wanted those sneakers, we had to go out and get a job to buy them. I didn't turn out so bad, did I?
America is in what our Government calls a recession. Sorry Folks but there's been far more money lost than in the last Great Depression and I personally cannot see a new business, (like the Internet) that is going to jump start the economy back to where we once were. We've been living in a false economy for 10 years now and rather than hitting rock bottom and facing the fact that we're broke, we're printing more money and the value of the American Dollar is dropping so low it's useless. The talk about Banks having the freedom to LOAN MORE MONEY is all a boat load of CRAP people! Ask around, even people with great credit can't get refinancing on their home. I know, my own Brother just tried and he just gets the run around. Things are going to get a whole lot worse, believe me. Printing more money is like pitting a bandaged on the Hoover Dam hoping to hold all that water pressure from busting loose. It's NOT going to work!
I thought I'd never say this but do you know what I would have advised that Idiot Real Estate Professional on that Show. File Bankruptcy, you Idiot! It would be far cheaper for you to rent a nice home than it would be to continue paying three mortgages! Of course the Host would have been fired for giving such advice but hey, not that I would ever like suggesting anyone to declare bankruptcy but if the mortgage companies were that stupid and that crooked to give this Idiot three mortgages, EAT IT, I say! If you weren't aware, MANY Americans are buying kits for around $350.00 on how to turn your keys to your home back to the Bank and simply walk away from your mortgage. There is a legal way to do so and of course you'll file bankruptcy but guess what, millions of Americans are doing it simply because they're in way too deep and they just can't afford it any more. In the end, IMHO, why not! If the majority of Americans are doing it, bad credit won't be punished because they're eventually going to want to get you back. If they don't, they can't survive and Banks will start closing like there's no tomorrow.
Which brings me to my final thought. I have been saying for years, Major Banks buying up smaller Banks is going to be the downfall of the American Economy. Duh, look what's happening! We have been posting for months the Banks the Government has been taking back VERY QUIETLY! Why are these big box stores and big Banks such a bad thing? Because, like I have said for years, when the BIG BOYS CRASH, all of America crashes. The Mom & Pop businesses across America keeps BUSINESS HONEST! The competition was fantastic because it kept everyone honest and fair. What will America do IF WalMart closed their doors? Seriously, I'm not at all kidding either. What would happen to YOU if your Bank closed it's doors? NONE of the small home town Banks are hurting one single bit. Bank of Willards, Bank of Ocean City, Bank of Delmarva and so forth are stronger than ever! They didn't make those crazy loans all over the place, allowing Real Estate Idiots to get three mortgages on their home so they could add a pool! These are real people dealing with you one on one.
In closing, I hope this information helps you not only to understand the reality we're currently living in. My greatest hope is that Americans stop walking around like Robots and falling victim of routine and or status quo. You can't win a game if everyone plays exactly the same. Life is far more challenging and if you're smarter at the game and stay one step ahead you'll come out a clear winner. The reason Americans aren't living the American Dream any more is because our Government traied us to believe using credit cards and wanting to have everythig everyone else has by making tiny payments, eventually came back and but most in the butt. Lots of people are learning to swallow their pride and walk away from all those luxuries. If you allow our Government to continue to SUCKER you into believing we're going to get out of this soon, consider yourself an IDIOT too because you have now been warned. Oh, and when your kid comes to you and tells you he or she wants to go to William & Mary for college, tell he or she to go out and get a job! People are living MUCH longer today and they have plenty of time to get an education. To those Idiots refinancing their home for their kids education, it will be as meaningless to MOST of them than it was buying them their first car. You DO remember how they treated that one, right? Get back to basics Folks because America ain't what it used to be.

Gabe Rosado, (top right) just can't make up his mind. One minute he's ready to fight Fernando Guerrero, the next minute he's scared to death of him. Today they're using the excuse they don't want their fighter fighting Fernando at 158 pounds and demand that Fernando drop to 155 pounds.
That being said, Hal Chernoff said enough is enough. They're going to find another fighter who wants to act like a fighter and go at it pound for pound without excuses.
As Fernando's record continues to go flawless, it makes finding competitors far more difficult. Mind you, there are fighters out there who can fight Fernando with excellent records but these are people with 25 Professional fights under their belt and that's a lot more experience than Fernando has and they don't want to move him up too fast and destroy a lifetime worth of hard work at someone else's expense.
Those fighters with similar records to Fernando are scared to death of him and they should be. Sooner or later they'll have to bite at one of these other more experienced fighters but for right now it's just too early in his career.
This means we have to sit back and wait to see who they bring to the table. It should be exciting to see who bites and comes to Salisbury for the ESPN2 Fight.

Salisbury News Breaks The 10,000 Post Mark & Vows No More Foul Language
Last week Salisbury News actually surpassed delivering more than 10,000 Posts since we've been on Blogger. We've delivered more, since we parted from Blogger for about a year and a half but considering we've been able to deliver that many Posts in two years, that's not too shabby.
I had a discussion with all of the Contributors of Salisbury News and we all collectively agreed that in 2009 we will refrain from using any more curse words in any of our Posts. This means we also will no longer allow curse words in comments either.
There's no question that Salisbury News has quickly gained recognition and has become more competitive toward ALL of the other local MSM and we plan on branching out even more in 2009. Considering the volume of traffic we get here every single day, it's time to clean things up even more. I would hope everyone has noticed how much I have personally toned things down and while someone asked me if I'd consider also getting the word Idiot out of my vocabulary, as much as I respect this individual I said, NO! There are just some expressions that are a necessity and if I can't curse, I will call some people Idiots. You're already taking the Bronx out of me, at least leave me on life support, will ya?
I'm working on another new Contributor right now who will bring some pretty cool stuff to Salisbury News. It's not for everyone but over time I believe the line of business that they're in will enhance local community awareness and be able to better explain the inner works of their profession, one of which we rely on every single day in our communities. I don't want to give too much away but should he agree to join it's really going to bring Salisbury News up yet another notch.
So 2009 is looking really good. I noticed Salisbury News not only ended the year of 2008 as the #1 Blog in Maryland but it also started off the first week of 2009 in the #1 position as well. Look out for this!
My daughter just got home from work and told me that a deputy came to the store at which she works and advised her supervisor to have all of the employees exercise caution and be on the look out for a white or gray van or SUV being occupied by two black males and a white female that had just robbed two stores in Salisbury at gunpoint. Although the vehicle description was vague, it was an excellent job of getting the word out on any vehicles acting suspiciously that fit a general description. Be careful people, I imagine it's going to get worse before it gets better.

NASCAR NEWS...Jeff Gordon fires his entire pit crew.......
This announcement followed Gordon's decision to take advantage of the government's program to employ Harlem youngsters.
The decision to hire them was brought about by a recent documentary on how unemployed youths from Harlem were able to remove a set of wheels in less than 6 seconds without proper equipment, whereas Gordon's existing crew could only do it in 8 seconds with millions of dollars worth of high tech equipment.
It was thought to be an excellent and bold move by Gordon's management team as most races are won or lost in the pits.
However-Gordon got more than he bargained for! At the crew's first practice session, not only was the Inexperienced crew able to change all 4 wheels in under 6 seconds, but within 12 seconds they had changed the paint scheme, altered the VIN number, and sold the car to Dale Jr. for 10 cases of Bud, a bag of weed, and some photos of Jeff Gordon's wife in the shower.

SPD Dispatcher Refuses To Send Officer
The caller lives in Moss Hill and had found a syringe lying right on the ground next to her home. She made the call to the SPD and they allegedly said, just throw it in the trash.
Here we are told to stay far away from such said items as no one has a clue as to if this thing is carrying aids or what have you. I mean, how often have you come across a needle just lying on the ground? Did you pick it up? Would you tell you Wife or Child to pick it up? Would you tell your Mother or Grandmother to pick it up?
The quality of service offered from the SPD simply SUCKS any more and these people are being trained to give these kind of answers. Sorry, we know your taxes went through the roof! We know you gave us additional pay! We Are the SPD and we just don't give a sh!t.
Soon enough the Mayor & SPD will be handing out plastic bottles to the elderly like they give out condoms to kids. Here, you Idiot, PICK IT UP and put it in here. Now leave us alone, we've got fresh donuts some junkie just dropped off sitting at the front desk. There's instruction on the bottle if you need to know anything else. Oh, by the way, if the needle pokes you, DON'T CALL US, CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. The number is on the bottle too.

Now Obama plans to do for broadband internet what FDR did for electricity-make it accessible to those potential users that the private telecom and multimedia giants have overlooked by failing to develop and invest in their networks, and if he indeed follows through on this, he will have won at least one convert right here. Yep, he finally find a way to get me and other conservative leaning tekkies to "drink the Kool-Aid".....read on.
I know that for the most part,the private sector can pretty much do anything better than the government does but in the area of internet technology, private companies have done too little,too late and our country is falling way behind as a result. An article in todays Baltimore Sun stated that "The United States ranks 15th worldwide in broadband access". That is just no longer acceptable in the so-called "internet age". It may not seem like a big issue but it is one that impacts our educational and economic future.
I am by no means advocating "free broadband for all"-of course users should pay for it-but right now there is no access to broadband for many areas. We cannot pay for something we do not have. Users like myself have one option-Hughesnet-and while they do have affordable basic residential service plans, they are still prohibitively expensive for commercial users. There are many businesses and organizations that would greatly benefit from high-speed internet access and are not "being served". We really cannot afford to be left in the proverbial dust when it comes to information technology so despite my reservations about it all, I am also optimistic. It goes beyond being able to download videos and music and it is about time the issue was addressed.

Delmar Police Department Press Release

DELMAR POLICE DEPARTMENT
Incident: Burglary
Location: 9327 Colonial Mill Dr.
Date: 01-02-2009
On 01-02-2009 at approx. 9:50 AM officers of the Delmar Police Department responded to 9327 Colonial Mill Dr., Delmar, MD in ref. to a residential burglary alarm. Upon arrival Delmar officers observed two male subjects fleeing from the rear of the residence which in-fact had been burglarized. Officers pursued suspects and subsequently apprehended one of the individuals, a juvenile male. The juvenile was in possession of loaded handgun at time of arrest. The juvenile has been charged as an adult. Subsequent investigation revealed a 4 door Honda was involved occupied one male identified as Antwaun Lee, 18 y.o.a. from Greenbelt, MD, and two juvenile females. A broadcast was issued for the suspect vehicle which was subsequently located by Maryland State Police and found to be stolen. The suspect vehicle refused to stop for Maryland State Police and a chase subsequently ensued. Vehicle was eventually stopped in Delmar, DE by Maryland State Police and Deputies from the Wicomico County Sheriffs Dept. Delaware State Police responded to the scene and took custody of Lee and the two juvenile females.
Further investigation lead to the apprehension of the second male who fled the residence on Colonial Mill who was identified as Leonard Hankins 20 y.o.a., from the DC/Virginia area. Officers of the Delmar Police Department assisted by the Wicomico Co. Sheriffs Dept, and Maryland State Police located Hankins in the parking lot of McDonalds, Delmar, DE.
Charges:
Juvenile apprehended at scene and Leonard Hankins were charged with Burglary 1st, Burglary 3rd, Conspiracy to commit Burglary 1st, Use of Handgun in commission of a Felony, Felony Theft, and Malicious Destruction of Property.
Antwaun Lee was charged with Conspiracy Burglary 1st, conspiracy Burglary 3rd, Use of handgun in the commission of a felony, Conspiracy felony theft, and malicious destruction of property.
Two female juveniles will be charged with various conspiracy charges.
